HT&J evaluated 260 existing METRO bus stops throughout Greater Houston Area. Where feasible, HT&J provided design to reconstruct the stop to current METRO 27.5’ x 8’ pad dimensions, provide new ADA compliant sidewalk and sidewalk ramp connections to the nearest intersection or crosswalk.
Many of the stops evaluated were located in residential areas lined with existing mature trees. In addition, the ROW was oftentimes limited to existing fence lines. In these situations, HT&J evaluated if the bus stops could be shifted to avoid the trees, or alternatively, if a smaller modified pad dimension could be used to fit within the ROW and tree constraints.
